My husband and I were very taken with our first visit to Hammer & Tong in Fitzroy for brunch last weekend. The establishment is all about fine food in a casual dining environment and that’s exactly what they delivered and the reason why the queues outside are so long – especially on the weekends. It’s such a bustling cafe by day & restaurant by night. It opened earlier this year in February and the head chef, Simon Ward, has worked at some extremely well renowned restaurants – think Vue de Monde, Jacques Reymond, France Soir & Caffe e Cucina.

Here’s what we had..

Ethan started off with their apple, watermelon & mint juice.

Whilst my husband and I had a divine latte & cappuccino.

For breakfast, Lil’ E had an entire ham & cheese croissant!

And a fair bit of his father’s amazing omelette with a super generous portion of Moreton Bay bugs & extra avocado & fetta mash..

He wasn’t too impressed with my French toast though. It had a bit too much going on what with raspberry sorbet, raspberries, banana, mint & a very salty peanut butter sauce all in large quantities strewn all over the one dish.

But that was all such a very small issue especially with their amazing front of house staff.

We will, without question, be back – next time for a delicious dinner!! I can’t wait.. xx

Thanks FreeMyHeart. It’s been a while since I’ve blogged so I’m in the process of making my categories, etc more sensible. I will definitely take your advice about the font face on board and change it when I get the chance.
